The loss happened during the transfer between the health department and hospital

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Lawrence Memorial Hospital said that nearly 600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine were wasted.
The hospital said it happened during a transfer from the Douglas County Health Department.
Staffers placed the doses in a freezer, but the doses had already been thawed. Johnson & Johnson told the hospital that the doses would need to be discarded.
Health officials are working on finding some replacement doses.
