A City of Cape Town contractor is in the process of dismantling the desalination plant infrastructure at Monwabisi, after the plant produced around 4.3 billion litres over two years.

Three years after Cape Town stared down its worst recorded drought, some of the key infrastructure that kept taps running in the city is being removed.
The Mobwabisi desalination plant, commissioned for short-term emergency water production, is currently being dismantled by a City of Cape Town contractor.
The desalination plant, which remains the property of the contractor, is being decommissioned and redeployed as part of the contractor’s responsibility.
